I can't believe they have finally started on my barn.  I am so very excited. It has not been easy trying to figure everything out, especially when you know nothing about building and as hard as I have tried to prepare myself for it all, of course all kinds of questions have popped up along the way and I have to go running trying to find the answer.  Who would have known how many types and sizes gravel comes in. How in the heck was I suppose to know what size I needed for what?  Or wood, what wood is best for stalls, ect. What siding do want for tack room, insulation?, ceiling, how high?, wash area, what do you use on walls there, what is best, what is cheapest and best? I think I have it worked out and all is going along as planned, I am sure I will have made some mistakes, but I will have a barn! yeah!!

I have gotten one picture of just the frame work and I will try to get another one tomorrow. They have started the siding and have the roof on now. I will post these tomorrow if I can. Just wanted to let everyone know. Can't wait to move my horses back home and into their new accomadations! Hope I don't run out of money before it is all finished, LOL!

Decisions, decisions.... isn't it fun! We bought a package from Menards 2 years ago and have changed the stalls and hay storage areas 2x's already. We've added more 'stuff' over time. Our horses are stylin' now compared to what they had before. You'll be happy with it though because you did it yourself.

LaVonne I am soooooo excited for you!!!!! tu1tu1tu1tu1tu1

I "feel your pain" when it comes to all of the decisions they want you to make.  Plus the fact that they want the decision yesterday ::)  Hubby and I are still working on fine tuning our new pole barn.  We ordered 88-ton of crush run which is supposed to be delivered Tuesday.  Yippee, more sore muscles :?  It will be so worth it in the end and you will be loving life.  Dang girl, I'm just so tickled for you :)

Please post progress pictures.  I can't wait to see it.

Slip & Lite post pictures,  I always get good ideas from looking at other folks barns.

Plus You are always seeming to have to change something up because off the little brats that live in the barn.  I just got my new feed room door up and ran  wire around the outside of the barn so I could have a hot wire over the hall gates, because if you are in the barn and they are outside in the paddock they are climbing the gate wanting in to the food,  and I ain't spending alot of money having everything nice and those monkeys climbing all over everything and tearing it up as fast as we build it.

I fixed my gate hot wire to be removable by putting a dog leash snap on one end and a gate handle on the other, so when we are not using it we can unsnap it and put it in the tack room.

So last night was the first night I had it up and my husband came in and said it worked good and had a kick to it,  he grabbed without turning it off ,LOL !

Oh thanks everyone!! I can't believe how much time has passed already. I will run out and take a picture and then it will probably take me awhile to remember how to post them, but I will try. They have completed all the siding now. They will be back next week to start working on the inside. Still have to get stalls, tack room and feed rom completed. But at least my horses have a place to come in out of the rain now!

I will go take that picture now and will be right back. :D

Ha! I did take them, I just have not had a chance to sit down and post them. It is 11:00 and I am tried. I have had a full day. I still have so much to do before I can move my horses home and I am trying to get it done, so I can move them this weekend.  I had to move my round pen panels this morning over to the overhang to make stalls there for the time being. The pony is lying down alot again, so I figure he is getting more grass than he needs again. I still have to put up my electric fence on the inside of the vinyl and the insulators that I ordered came in yesterday, but I had to go to hardware store to get screws for them. So I hope to start in the morning and get that done, if I don't wear out first. I am doing all of this myself. My 19 year old did help me move the panels, but as soon as we finished he raced off, so I am on my own moving all of my horse stuff (feed, tack, buckets, hay, ect.). I hope he will show up and help with the electric fence, but I am not counting on it.

If I don't have things ready by Saturday, it will probably be another week before I can move them home. For those that do not know I am taking chemo treatments. I have one scheduled for Friday and by Sunday I usually am feeling pretty tired and it takes me a few days to a good week before I feel like doing anything again. So that is why I am rushing so.

O.K. I decided to not procrastinate(?) and go ahead and do it. So here is the finished exterior. It will probably be another month before they are able to get back to complete the inside.

On the left side of the picture is an enclosed overhang, where I will keep buggy, trail wagon, ect and in the back of this I will store my hay. In the middle of course is the main stable, with wash rack, feedroom, tackroom and 4 stalls. That little door leads right into the tackroom. On the right is the open overhang and this is where my truck and trailer go. I decided to add an extra over hang (far right) for the horses to have a place to get under when I am not home. I can also use this area to make stalls with my panels to keep extra horse here or just whatever I might need.

Here is the picture of the inside storage area. As you can see my horses have already started enjoying there new barn, LOL. This is where hay and buggies will be stored.

Here is the unfinished inside, showing the wash rack and two stalls. You can see the drain on the left and that is gravel on the right of picture where two of my stalls will be. I plan on using the stallskins on top. I was wanting brush concrete all over, but they misunderstood and only put it in the wash rack area. So I guess I will have to add mats in the aisle way now. My aisleway is 12ft. wide, my stalls, feedroom and wash rack are 10x10. My tack room is on the right across from washstahl and feedroom, it is 10x20. I will be putting a ceiling over the feedroom and tackroom so I can also use that for extra storage. I plan on using insulating boards and plywood for the walls.

This is a picture of where my truck and trailer will go and then the xtra overhang for the horses to get out of the weather. I will be putting boards between the post to keep horses from getting into the trailer area and a gate across the front here.

I had to add a picture of the cupola (?spelling). My barn is white with black trim and a gray roof.

I had to go ahead and add the picture of my truck and trailer. I bought this trailer last fall and it was a rust bucket. Surface rust. I had it repainted this spring and to say the least it looks much better. I added a fan inside trailer to keep horses comfortable. It just has a dressing room and king size bed up front. It works for us for now, but I would love to upgrade one day to a small living quarters trailer. I know just what I want, problem is, it just takes money. ;)

Well you asked for pictures.l1

Great barn.  Very well planned out, looks as if you thought of everything.  You should be proud.  I know you have got to be excited to bring your horses home and begin using it.

VEERRRYY nice! We are hoping to get truck and trailer storage for ours too. Are you planning to put something on the bottom of you stall walls? We put 3/4" plywood, 4' from the floor up. on the outside wall. You just never know when one of them lil' darlings will decide to kick. I was afraid of them getting a foot caught. Just a thought.

Yes we are planning on putting popular boards around the stalls and will put oak on the very top (to help deter any chewing, although my horses will not be stabled that long).  My builder said it would be easier to put the boards vertical. Does any one have an opinion of boards vertical vs. horizontal? We then will put (I believe it is called hog wire around the top.  Between two of the stalls I am putting drop boards so they can be removed if I were to need a bigger stall at some point.

I am also waiting on water hydrant and lighting. I want flourescent lights in the barn.  I am excited and will be so glad when it is all finished, but I am already enjoying it as it is.

I don't know how cold in gets in your area, but there are florecent tubes and bulbs now that will light even at -20 degrees. We have very cold winters here. They work well.

Wow, great barn!  What's amazing is that you have done so much work yourself on this, and even when not feeling well.  Quite a woman!

sscemft- Thankfully we do not get that cold here. But it is glad to know they work so well.

Joyrider- I wish you lived closer too!!!

I have been enjoying my barn just as it is. Boy if I had that living Quarter horse trailer I wanted, I am not sure I would ever come back into my house!:D It was so nice yesterday. We had rain drizzling down, but there I was in the barn grooming and enjoying the horses. What a luxury that was, something I have not been able to do it such a long time.

Wow I am totally jealous!

I've needed a new stall built on to my barn so guess what... I am building it myself.  I don't have the $$$ to hire someone since I pour all my money into the horses.  Just started it this weekend.  No help from the hubby.  He starts telling me what to do and I don't take well to his orders.  Needless to say my barn doesn't look half as nice as yours but it keeps the horses and hay dry when it rains.

Congratulations! Tara
