Hi all....I'm new here and just purchased my first TWH. I had a bad fall last year and broke my right arm in several places...so I'm just now getting back into riding again. Building my confidence back up has been a major issue.

Anyway, I got on my TWH, Mark tonight and he was great....I have yet to do anything more than a walk with him but this is a start. I also got on my trusty Quarterhorse, Future and walked and trotted him around!!! I feel GREAT!!!! :)

What a good feeling to be back in the saddle again!!! I can't wait to learn more about the gaited breeds and get going with Mark...he is such a sweet, quiet, laid back boy and he's only 5!!!

Thanks for listening! l1 I'm smiling from ear to ear!!!

Way to go!  Doesn't it feel good!

I 'sat' on one of ours today, for the second time. LOL He is a 'long' 2 year old, just getting started.  He is doing quite well.  He took a couple steps before I dismounted. That's about all I wanted him to do.  But it was fun!

You have come to the right place, you will find there are many of us that have had a bad fall and we are also slowly getting back into the swing of things.

We just take it in baby steps and having a nice horse to help us take those steps certainly helps. Sounds like you have two nice horses to help you out.

When you have time tell us your story.;)

Clap, Clap, Clap!!! I really understand the importance of what you did. I too have suffererd a fall a few years back. I too would like to hear more about you and your horses. I love TWH's but will always love those fat bottom QH's. Can't wait to see pic's of your horses.

I had a horse dump me about 7 years ago. Although I went into a nice roll, I  fractured a foot, sprained my ankle and had to ride another horse back to the trailer.  For weeks afterwards I would relive the event just as I fell asleep. Rolled out of bed pulling on reins that wasn't there.  Really creepy to go through.  Never could forgive the horse and had to sell it.  I've ridden horses all my life, been hurt many times, but this last time bothered me.   Went into a mid-life crisis and bought a young, green horse.  Big Mistake!  I wanted something to ride, not babysit, so I bought an older gelding and still have both horses.  Should have done it the other way around,  but us humans have to learn the hard way.

Two horses two personalities.  One is a quarter horse the other is a KMSH.  I enjoy riding them both.  Although on certain days I appreciate the laid back attitude of the Quarter horse.  Other days I like the KMSH's ' do it and do it now!' attitude.  Gotta keep him busy or he'll think of other things to do for entertainment.  Oddly, he's my favorite ride, now.  He's not a laid-back baby sitter-never will be-but he's never been mean.  Never bucked or reared-he just bolted unexpectedly-but always stopped if I lost my balance.

Life goes on.  Keep riding!

I am just amazed at what a sweet, easy going horse I have. The more I read about the TWH the more I love him! And to think I was going to take him back to the guy I bought him from!!!::)  Thank God I didn't....he's turned out to be a truly awesome horse so far!! I personally haven't done anything more than a walk on him....but I'm close to pushing him into his gait. I think he does a running walk. The gait thing seems very complicated to me...I hope I can learn it the right way!

I'm so excited....I finally did more than walk my TWH...on Monday I went into a gait...I don't know what you call it, I know it's not a trot. That's what I'm used to calling it on my Quarterhorses....anyway...it was FABULOUS!!!!! I can't believ how great it felt...like we were glidingl1. That's the first time I've done it with Mark...I'm going to ride again tomorrow! Can't wait!!!!!!!:)I'm so happy...Woo Hoo!
