| I love the fox trot and running walk but as long as it's smooth I'll ride it! Jen

Just give me a smooth gait and I don't care what you call it ! Seriously though, I love a smooth 4 beat or a silky run-walk. I've never ridden a MFT so I have'nt tried the foxtrot yet . I've heard they're delightful to ride. I've mainly ridden TWH, Kentucky Natural Gaited , KMSH, and gaited Morgans. The Ky. Natural Gaited horses I own have a smooth 4 beat that is loads of fun to ride. But as long as it's gaited I'm ready to ride !

Hay guys,
My very favorite of them all is You know the one that has no Buck or Rare to it. Oh yes thats the one for me. I think all beginners like me will enjoy that one. Ha!
Actually Iv only gaited once so far and i think it was the running walk. That was so fun. But I have actually gone bavk to some basic ground work, so I look forward to learning new gaits once we get back in the saddle again.

My MFT does a saddle rack that is delightful and soooo sweet to ride.
It takes a bit for me to ask him properly to foxtrot, but when we get it, it is my next favorite gait.

| Any smooth gait is a pleasure, but a slow rocking chair canter justs lulls me into nirvana! I've ridden a fast rack before and that was a blast too! All that speed and felt like I was on rails!

I ain't no purist. I'll accept any smooth gait that is easy on my horse & myself. Yeah, I'm lazy too...I don't want us to have to work too hard at it either. I call it pleasure riding for a reason.
I like my Paso Fino's good ol' 4 beat gait. I like my old SSH mare's relaxed saddle shuffley-thing she does (don't cringe, Brenda). But her rocking chair canter is to live for!

I love my pasos "amble" I think it is called. but anytime i ride a non gaited horse i realize that ANY gait is way, way better than a trot

This is something I have been curious about since my husband got his TWH.
My mare does a smooth fast rack, his gelding does a slower running walk that you have to work to keep him in , he was a young 3rd horse when we bought him so he had not been ridden very consistently, but he is improving every day.
My mare runs off and leaves him in the flats but uphill his gelding is like a train very ground covering and smooth and my mare has a hard time keeping up with him uphill.
Now if you rode a GREAT rack and then a GREAT running walk, which one do others out there that have ridden both types think is the smoothest or the funnest to ride ? Or does it just purely vary from horse to horse and there own ability ? It seems both our horses are smooth in there own ways, but different and that is what I wonder, is which one is the most appealing to ride, guess it depends on what the ride prefers too.
Would like to see other opinions on this.

Any gait that doesn't "bounce"
I like my paso's four beat "amble" that isn't quite a full corto, but a very fast walk. Our Arab has to trot to keep up with him.

My favorite gait? The walk. I mean a gooooood walk. A solid ground-covering walk. A good to the last drop W.A.L.K. . . .and that beautiful gait is not even listed for votes.Last edited on Wed Feb 14th, 2007 04:07 am by whattarack

Yes, I agree! I know that walk. It is the one Thunder does, when we first start out on a trail ride. He is full of excitement and and as he walks on it is just delightful. Not to fast, not to slow, just perfect to me. As we get on down a ways, and its been about 15 minutes or so, he does slow back down to his dog walk, which is where most of us older women feel fine with, as that is when the chatting party between us starts. You know how we woman love to talk. I think it puts Thunder into sleep mode, bless his heart!

| Lady's saddle rack is pretty darn nice. And so easy! I'm lazy by nature myself. She'll saddle rack in any kind of bit, or none at all, any kind of footing. Think she'd gait if I rode her backwards. So that's my favorite. Can't wait to ride that girl again!!
