Hello all, I want to start a new topic. As we all know gas prices are hitting the roof and now dropping a bit they are still way to high.

What are your ways of saveing fuel while pulling your trailer to camp or show. I have seen wind diflectors for pick ups Do they work? Do you use one or know someone who has used one? I know the big 18 wheelers use them so that must say something. If you do use them how many miles per gallon did it save you?

Or do you use other means to save gas.

Please share your efforts with us all.

No, they do not work on a pickup/trailer .......... I've read that time and time again on RV forums.

I would apply all the rules for saving gas while driving, such as anticipating what is ahead - gain momentum downhill to help you up hill. Coast to a stop & maybe you won't have to stop at a red light & can keep moving. Drive at high speed w/ windows up. Gentle acceleration - leave the lead foot at home. Remove unnecessary items = weight. plan trip to avoid idle traffic = rush hour. Fill gas tank in the morning. Fill tank slowly = more actual fuel dispensed. Proper tire pressure. Park & walk - stay away from drive-throughs. plan route carefully.

  More stuff, folks?

I think that's a question we all would like an answer to.;) We pull a 36', 4 horse trailer with an F350, 4dr truck. The cost of diesel is insane. Being retired, we go closer places and stay longer when we go. Needless to say this wasn't part of the plan when we decided to retire early.

The only thing I've seen is to combine horses into one trailer if U r going to the same place.  There are lot of people looking to fill a trailer if they have any empty spot!Coming to a show or traveling east to pick-up a horse(so going out empty coming back full!!
